這次的展出還包括兩部少女漫畫,其中主角的姓名已經經過更改成為我的名字,而一旁仍放置著我的姓名貼紙,供觀眾任意在漫畫的任何地方使用;同時,觀眾也可選擇更改漫畫的內容,或將其中角色的姓名改為自己的名字。

There was another part in the exhibition besides the wooden box where the performance was operated. I prepared two sets of girl comic books from different authors, and had changed the leading roles’ names into my name. I also prepared stickers printed my name, correction tapes and black pens beside the comic books, so that the audience can change any other roles’ names into my name or his/her own name, or change the conversations/contents in the comic books.

I arrange a white, rectangle wooden box in the exhibition hall. The wooden box is divided into two sections, one is covered by the curtain, and the other part is a semi-opened condition. The vibrator is put in between two sections- the switch is arranged in the semi-opened side ; the electric wire goes through the curtain and the vibrator is situated in the side covered by the curtain . I stay behind the curtain and put the vibrator on my clitoris. Participants / audiences are allowed to enter into the opposite section(without being covered) , turn on the switch, and control frequency or intensity of the vibrator. Sometimes I make some noise when I am turned on in the process. (As the picture and the video upper show) During the performance, mostly I stayed in the box so that participants cannot see me. Even the participants enter into the semi-opened space, controlling the switch and its speed, they still could not see me.

During the days of hiding in the box, I have experienced that what it exactly means by ‘Sex as a labor work’, sex work could never be a simple way to make money. It requires not only physical vigor, but also the capability to comfort the clients. For those participants / audiences, they need to enter into a strange setting which mingles with deeply private and intimate relation. Thus, all the solidities at that moment are blurred and melted into ambiguous situation regardless of sense organs or the cognition of ‘normal relations’. This experiment provides an invisible barrier about testing the boundary of ‘sexuality’ and opportunity to taste the temporal ‘abnormal relation’. However, the effects which have generated from the temporal experiment do not disappear as the experiments are gone; Even though all the daily routine is reinstated, the remaining dynamics are still stirring in the once created relations. In other words, the instantly created ‘intimate’ milieu at the beginning later turns into the anxiety which is largely mixed with intimacy. However, it also reopens the possibilities of rethinking/ rebuilding relationships.

…This work reflects a condition of human beings, though we could not find the solution but it is the precise reality. It is the ultimately helpless and minimum demand/desire to intimacy, which precisely captures the feeling and status of the original relations between ‘sex worker and the client’.

The art work has created an undifferentiated gender experiment. It not only engages with the topic of ‘intimacy’, but also explores the dynamics of loves and desires.

Standing between art design and social movement, it is a loop for me to connect both from personal level to the society, and also to mirror politics of the society on my body. For me, COSWAS is a space which provides diverse cultural actions to voice out the political belief and context in regard to sex workers’ movement.

To those social movement advocacy groups who need to convey information to the public, it is always seemly more effective to utilize forms such as music, photography, drama and documentary other than the modern art with devices or behavior art formats. However, I think modern art could be an alternative stimulus for participants in various walks of life to approach difficult social issues.

The document of work“Make me high and more”, was invited to participate in co-exhibition “Local Viewpoint Made in Taiwan”, Bamboo Curtain Studio.


2008/Dec.
“Make me high and more”was selected by 2008 Taipei Art Award, and exhibited in Taipei Fine Arts Museum from 2008/12/30 to 2009/3/8.

我在展場內放置一個白色長形木櫃, 木櫃內分為兩個區塊,一塊是用布幕遮蓋的空間,另一部份則是半開放的狀態;而跳蛋則擺放在兩個區塊之間-跳蛋的開關在半開放的那邊,跳蛋的電線經過布幕,而跳蛋本身放在布幕遮蓋的空間內。在展出時,我會待在布幕遮蓋的那一邊,將跳蛋擺在陰蒂上(如上圖及影片所示);展出期間,我盡量待在櫃子中,觀眾在進入展場後便看不到我 。觀眾進入半開放的空間,操作跳蛋開關及其運動速度(仍舊看不到我)。

在我躲在木櫃裡的那幾天,我體驗到了什麼叫「性做為一種勞動」,性工作從來就不是一個兩腳開開簡單賺錢的工作。它不只需要體力,也需要安撫客人的能力。 身為觀眾,進入一個陌生但更加私密及親暱的關係之中; 在當下必須放棄慣用視覺去確定另一個人的存在,更延伸的來說,確定的狀態在此時變得模糊曖昧,不僅僅在感官上,也在「常態」的關係認知上。這個實驗提供了結界,給予常態暫時突變的機會。而暫時突變的效應並沒有因為結界消失而迅速歸零;即使一切返回日常,其中仍閃爍著異狀。從當初對親密感的體認製造出的環境,到親密感伴隨焦慮現身,衍生出關係重建的各種可能性。

…這件作品反應出一種人類存在的狀態,得不到解決卻也極度真實;其所反應出來的對親密感最無力與最低限的需要與欲求,也正是存在於最原始的「性工作與嫖客」關係裡的某種感覺狀態。

以作品本身的形式而言,即做為一種不區分性別或性向的實驗,不只是在親密感的處理上,在情慾流轉的樣態上也能夠成為一種試探。

我認為在藝術創作跟社會運動之間,存在著一個使個人能從內在連結到外界、使政治從外在回溯到個人的迴路;對我而言,日日春是一個有空間讓文化行動在其運動脈絡上發聲的團體。對於需要將資訊傳達給群眾的運動團體來說,音樂、攝影、戲劇、紀錄片等形式相較於當代藝術的裝置或行為的紀實效果更為明確;但我想當代藝術在此可以開創另一種刺激各種位置參與者重新省思的遊戲空間。
